Authors of scientific and technical information select a pattern of organization in order to help the reader understand the information.  In this module, you will learn how to determine the author’s purpose and analyze how the author chooses a specific structure(s) in order to serve the overall purpose.  Such analytical thinking will help you be able to integrate new information into your understanding of the content.

Module Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify and analyze the text structure used to organize the text.
  • Draw conclusions about how the relationship among the major sections adds to the growth of the author’s central idea.
