This module is for Grades: 6-8 Welcome

Authors of science and technical information texts select a pattern of organization in order to help the reader understand the information.  In this module, you will learn how to determine the author’s purpose and analyze how the author chooses a specific structure(s) in order to serve the overall purpose. Such analytical thinking will help you be able to integrate new information into your understanding of the content.

Module Objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Determine the author’s purpose for the identified text, and draw conclusions about how the relationship among the major sections adds to the growth of the author’s purpose within the whole text.  
  • Identify and analyze the text structure used to organize the text.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the structure in presenting the information.
