A well-written explanation of a science topic includes a claim, evidence and reasoning. When you write an explanation, you want readers to understand and agree with your ideas. Organizing your ideas using claims, evidence and reasoning will help you to clearly communicate so your audience will understand your purpose for writing.

  • Identify claims in a science text.
  • Identify evidence that supports a particular claim.
  • Identify and use reasoning that explains why evidence supports a particular claim.
